Silk Alto Clarinet Swab - Black

Item number 2060188DN, $9.00

Cleaning the inside of your alto clarinet just got easier with the introduction of the Ann Hodge brand alto clarinet swab. This quality swab is easy to use, and will extend the life of your instrument and its pads.

To use, just drop the weighted string into the bell of the instrument, then pull the string (and the silk swab itself) through your alto clarinet. As the silk passes through the alto clarinet, it removes build-up from inside the instrument. It is perfect for the mouthpiece, as well. Care instructions for the swab are a breeze, too. Just machine wash on cold, and tumble dry low when needed. Add life to your pads and instrument with this Ann Hodge silk alto clarinet swab!

Rico Clarinet Reeds - Strength 3
Rico Clarinet Reeds - Strength 3
Item number 2060025DN, $11.95

The standard Rico reed is the type of reed that we recommend for most beginning students. The reeds are good quality, without being too pricey. As with all of our reeds, all boxed reeds are at least 10% off list price, and can not be returned.

Reeds are typically available in strengths of 1 through 5 (some brands label their reeds as Soft, Medium Soft, ... through Hard). In general, the lower the number, the easier it is to play most notes. The down side, is that the lower number reeds just don't sound as nice, and make it harder to hit high notes.

As a general rule, we recommend reeds with a strength of 2 (Soft) for people just getting started, and strength 2 1/2 (Medium Soft) for people who have played for a year (less time if they take lessons). The harder reeds should only be used after using the next softer size of reed for six months to a year, or at the recommendation of a private instructor or band director.
